For the past 30 years the Orth family has owned and operated several successful business ventures throughout Western Canada. They were recognized as leaders in the environmental waste disposal industry as well as real estate development and residential construction. With the sale of Scanlands Environmental Ltd. in 2004 to Newalta Corp., now operating with over 450 employees and over 50 offices across Western Canada, the Orth family is now turning all of its expertise into their real estate development ventures.
Four years ago the three Orth brothers, Ed, Darrell, James and father Ed Sr. joined forces with Donald Ballard, founder and CEO of Oceanside Developments International, to explore the opportunity of expanding their developments abroad. For the past ten years Donald Ballard has been actively investing in the Mexico real estate market and has identified Mazatlan as ready for rebirth as a retirement and vacation destination.
The groups combined efforts and began their first of four planned condominium developments. Their first project, The Ocean Palms tower was completed in the spring of 2008 and their second, Tiara Sands is now ready for occupancy and finishing touches to the building are slated for completion winter 2008. The third project, the luxury tower Legacy is set to commence early 2009. A fourth project, Infinity Tower, is in the late planning stages at present and set for construction to commence in 2010.
The group is excited and pleased with the progress of their Mazatlan projects. The city of Mazatlan has a vision and Ocean Side Developments is a major force turning that vision of a new Mazatlan into reality. When complete, projects such as the Ocean Palms, Tiara Sands, Legacy and Infinity towers, will add more than 360 luxury condos to Mazatlan's growing real estate market.
When asked about the development opportunities for Mazatlan and Mexico, Donald responded. ”I believe that Mazatlan is the strongest emerging market in all of Mexico. Mazatlan is being called boomtown and is poised to explode. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and shows no signs of letting up. It has always felt like home to me and I look forward to developing in this beautiful city for many years to come."
